Strong Tower

The new Freedom Tower and Lower Manhattan SkylineA tower is described as a tall narrow building. It also implies being higher than normal and over everything else. For example: Like a bird rises to great heights overhead. A tower was used for defense as well. The towers had sharp shooters and the soldiers or guards could get a quick perspective as to the approaching trouble. David used this analogy describe the protection of the Lord. Check this out….

1 Hear my cry, O God;

    listen to my prayer.
2 From the ends of the earth I call to you,

    I call as my heart grows faint;

    lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
3 For you have been my refuge,

    a strong tower against the foe.
4 I long to dwell in your tent for ever

    and take refuge in the shelter of your wings. (Psalm 61:1-4 NIV)

I love the fact that wherever I am, He is still my refuge and my rock. He doesn’t lose me and I don’t loos Him. I also love the picture of Him being a strong tower with protection over me against those who try to hurt me.

This passage reminded me of a song that was recorded by a band called Kutless. Check these words out….

When I wander through the desert
And I’m longing for my home
All my dreams have gone astray
When I’m stranded in the valley
And I’m tired and all alone
It seems like I’ve lost my way

I go running to your mountain
Where your mercy sets me free

You are my strong tower
Shelter over me
Beautiful and mighty
Everlasting King
You are my strong tower
Fortress when I’m weak
Your name is true and holy
And Your face is all I seek

In the middle of my darkness
In the midst of all my fear
You’re my refuge and my hope
When the storm of life is raging
And the thunder’s all I hear
You speak softly to my soul (copyright 2011 Kutless)

I’m so thankful that the Lord is a Strong Tower over me!

Pressing On!
Dwayne
