Small But Significant

The new Freedom Tower and Lower Manhattan SkylineI grew up in a small town in Kentucky. The mailing address when I was a kid was simply Casey Creek, KY 42723. If you put my name and that “city”, state and zip, it would get to me. Everybody knew everybody in the small town. Everybody also knew everybody’s business. The local post office has since been closed and the small town is just about extinct, but my memories and roots of growing up in that small town are still very much alive. The values that I caught from my parents and neighbors will live on through me, as well as generations of my family after me.

Micah, the prophet told of something special happening from the smallest clans of Israel. It’s a sneak peak into Jesus coming on the scene. Check this out….

2 ‘But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,

though you are small among the clans of Judah,

out of you will come for me

one who will be ruler over Israel,

whose origins are from of old,

    from ancient times.’

4 He will stand and shepherd his flock

in the strength of the Lord,

in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God.

And they will live securely, for then his greatness

will reach to the ends of the earth. (Micah 5:2,4 NIV)

Jesus’ presence on the earth changed everything. He was born of a virgin and raised in a carpenters shop. He came here with a mission and he accomplished it. No one thought that someone that significant could come from a small town of Bethlehem.

I believe that the Lord can take the smallest and most insignificant person and use them in the most powerful ways. In fact, I believe that He does some of His best work in people who are humble and obedient. He can use them the way He wants to and they have laid down their ego, which is often a huge roadblock.

Little towns become big when the Lord is the Lord of them. Oh little town of Bethlehem became world renown as the birthplace of Jesus. I want my heart to be a humble and obedient place where the Lord can do great things for His Kingdom. I don’t want myself to be noticed, I want the Lord inside my heart to be noticed. He can do great things with a simple committed heart.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
