Slavery

I’ve read the history books about slavery here in the United States. It was a very sad period in our existence as a nation. We devalued one human life over another. We treated humans as property. I am thankful when I read historical accounts of Abraham Lincoln at his courage to help our nation change perspective and give freedom to people who had no idea what freedom was. Unfortunately this is part of our history as a nation.  Slavery is not a positive experience. Slavery to anything is not healthy.  Jesus speaks about slavery to sin. I am a slave to sin. I do not like being a slave to sin. I want to be free from its grasp on my heart and my mind. It appears to others that I am deeply spiritual and walk closely with the Lord. I do walk with Him daily and I dig into His Word and it always reveals how much more I need Him. I can’t possibly be good enough on my own to save myself. My sin is habitual and common. My sin is not destroying or hurting anyone but me. I still hate being a slave to sin. I’m thankful that because I know Jesus, I can know freedom from sin. I have forgiveness of sin through Jesus. The Grace and Mercy of God came through Jesus’s death on the cross. I’m no longer a slave to sin, but a sinner saved by the incredible Grace and Mercy of God. He is the One Who made a way for my sin to be wiped out and removed from me. He is the One Who gives me freedom from the bondage of my sin. I’m so grateful to be freed from slavery! He has adopted me as a kid in His family. I went from being a slave to being a son! Wow!!
