Sing, Sing, Sing!
I love music. I love to sing. I really love to sing songs about God. Singing is about using my voice to make sounds of melodies and string together sentences in a melody. I’ve enjoyed singing since I was a young kid in Kentucky. My parents loved singing. I’ve grown up with music and singing for as long as I can remember.
I think music and singing go together like a hand in a glove. Music doesn’t always need to be sung and singing doesn’t always need music. However, together they are amazingly simple – yet complex. The Psalms are often a song just waiting to be sung. The Psalm I came across today is one of those ready to be put big music and played for God. Check this out…
1 Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. 2 Sing to the Lord and praise his name; every day tell how he saves us. 3 Tell the nations of his glory; tell all peoples the miracles he does, 4 because the Lord is great; he should be praised at all times. He should be honored more than all the gods, 5 because all the gods of the nations are only idols, but the Lord made the heavens. 6 The Lord has glory and majesty; he has power and beauty in his Temple. (Psalm 96:1-6 NCV)I’ve decided that singing doesn’t always need words. Sometimes singing might be simply sounds that come from within the heart. I know that when I’ve been deeply troubled in spirit, a song is not the first thing I think of. I do find a way to sing, even though it may sound a little “blues like”. I also believe that songs are a way to express deep thoughts of the soul. I often wish I could write songs that come from deep within my heart.
Today I’m thankful for the gift of music. I’m grateful that I get to express my love for God by playing songs on my guitar. I’m also grateful for the opportunity to simply sing a line from scripture that goes from my heart to His. God is the Creator of music and I believe He loves it when I use music to express my love for Him!
