Sing A Song
I love music. I love to sing. I believe music is a universal language. Music can communicate joy and celebration. It can also communicate great pain, struggle and every emotion known I think. I can turn on the radio and be drawn into a song. I can pull up a playlist in my phone that either matches my mood or I may very well need to change my mood – music can do that. When I hear a song from my youth, it takes me back to that point in time of my life. (I was thinking of Kiss – yes I did listen to them during my teen years! I also remember songs by Journey, Bob Segar just to name a few.) I enjoy new songs. I enjoy old songs – just sing a song!
The Psalmist was in a tough spot and struggling with singing a song. Check this out….
1 By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept when we remembered Zion. 2 There on the poplars we hung our harps, 3 for there our captors asked us for songs, our tormentors demanded songs of joy; they said, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!” 4 How can we sing the songs of the Lord while in a foreign land? (Psalm 137:1-4 NIV)
I really enjoy songs of worship and praise because these songs take me out of my circumstances and give me an eternal perspective. I don’t understand all there is to know of God, but I enjoy singing songs to Him; for Him and about Him. When I sing Him a song, it ends up blessing me. I can remember singing songs in the middle of pain that cry out to Him and my heart is lifted.
One of my favorite from a few years ago is “Sing A Song” by Third Day. Check it out here.
Today I will sing no matter what. I want my heart to sing of Who God is and All that He’s doing in me!
Pressing On! Dwayne
