Signs

Traffic Signage SetBill Engfall made the words “Here’s Your Sign” quite famous. He would poke fun at people who do dumb things – sometimes called “stupid people”. He thought stupid people should wear a sign that said, “I’m Stupid”. Here’s a sample story, a trucker gets his truck stuck under an overpass, and the responding policeman asks “Hey, you get your truck stuck?” The trucker answers, “No sir, I was delivering that overpass and I ran out of gas. Here’s your sign.” (Wikipedia)

Road Signs give direction, warning and information. They can alter our destination and our timing. They are extremely helpful directing drivers to behave a certain way like speed and taking a certain route.

The Lord gives me different signs to show me His Presence and sometimes His Preference for me. I need to be alert to see them – some are subtle and small, while others are like flashing neon billboards. Check this out…

10 Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz, 11 ‘Ask the Lord your God for a sign, whether in the deepest depths or in the highest heights.’
12 But Ahaz said, ‘I will not ask; I will not put the Lord to the test.’
13 Then Isaiah said, ‘Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of humans? Will you try the patience of my God also? 14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: the virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. (Isaiah 7:10-14 NIV)

As I read the Word of God, I believe He speaks into my life. He gives me directional signs. He gives me signs of deliverance. He gives me signs of peace and comfort. I sometimes need a heightened sense of seeing and hearing to notice the signs that God puts in my path. I sometimes need Him to whack me on the head with a 2X4 to get my attention. The Lord is speaking and doing – the question is: Am I noticing the signs of God’s work and His presence?

Pressing On!
