Sharp Sword
I’ve never held a sword in my hands. I’ve had a machete that you can purchase at the local hardware store. I do have a bench grinder that assists me in making it really sharp. It can help cutting a path through some thick woods. It can also be a defensive weapon to take the head off of a snake or an animal trying to harm me. A sword, as with many weapons, can be an offensive weapon or a defensive weapon.
The Hebrew writer describes the Word of God as a two-edged sword. He describes the Word of God as a offensive weapon and a defensive weapon. Check this out….
12 For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.
16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. (Hebrews 4:12-14,16 NLT)
I do enjoy reading and studying the Word of God. The Word of God introduces the reader to Jesus, the One and Only Son of God. The Word of God also describes in great detail the very heart of God. The Word of God also introduces many ordinary people who simply followed God with their lives. I believe we were created to follow God and serve Him.
I believe that the Word of God is an offensive weapon against sin and suffering. The Word can help me navigate the most trying & difficult circumstances. There are many principles about dealing with people in God’s Word. The Lord created people and He knows all about how we are prone to wander and become sinful. He knows the powerful influence of evil in our world. His Word can help prepare us offensively for whatever we face.
The Word of God is a defensive tool as well. The enemy sends several trials and challenges our way. They may “look” good, but they can be destructive. I believe that the Word of God can help us defend our faith against the schemes of the enemy.
The Word of God can prepare me for spiritual battle.
The Word of God can help in the middle of a spiritual battle or physical battle.
The Word of God teaches timeless truth that is still applicable to me in my every day life.
