Serve & Follow The Lord

I’ve grown up going to church since I was a child. It’s a bit difficult to imagine not going to church this morning and seeing my church family. This is new territory for our nation for sure. I believe the Lord will do some amazing things because that it His Specialty – He makes all thing work together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose”. This pandemic did not surprise the Lord. I’m thankful for the leaders of our nation and our state who are proactively preparing to protect and serve the citizen of the United States.

I was reading about the end of Joshua’s life and career as the leader of the people of Israel after their conquest of the land that God had promised and delivered to them. He is challenging the people to remember what God has done. He also challenged them that they had a daily choice to follow or not follow the Lord. Check this out….

14 “So fear the Lord and serve him wholeheartedly. Put away forever the idols your ancestors worshiped when they lived beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord alone. 15 But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:14-15 NLT)

I believe that serving the Lord is a choice – it’s even more than a daily choice. I think we must constantly choose Him over so many other distractions and options.  I know that I have allowed other things to become an idol in my life for sure.

Our idols are not wooden or gold carvings – they are way more subtle. For example, I want to be wealthy. There is nothing wrong with wealth unless it becomes MORE IMPORTANT than the One Who blessed me with wealth. Years ago, I wanted to be famous. I sort of still do, but not in the same way. I want to be known for teaching and leading well, when instead, I should want the Lord to be famous to many because I’m leading, teaching and pointing to Him.

I’m so grateful for my family and I decided years ago to follow the Lord. I want to follow Him until my last breath. There is an abundant life that is lived here while following the Lord. There is eternal life after this one where I will be in His Presence forever. That is the ultimate reward for choosing to serve Him and follow Him.

I still have lots to work on inside my heart, but the Lord is still at work on me. My role is surrender and obedience to Him in every area of my life. I’m humbled and grateful for all that He has blessed me with and entrusted into my care. I want my faith to grow deeper and wider as I continue to serve and follow the Lord.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
