Selfie – OLD vs. New (PART 1)
There is a new word that came about recently –called the “selfie”. This is a picture that you take of yourself in different places and situations and then it can be posted on Instagram, Facebook or any social media. Some “selfies” are flattering, while others are embarrassing. I have a few “selfies”, but I’m not really into that. The “selfie” is really about myself.
There is an “old selfie” and a “new selfie”. There are old toys and new toys. There are old clothes and new clothes. Old is usually out and new is usually in. When the New Year rolls around, it’s usually a good time to see what needs to go in order to make room for the new – It is called a “new year”! By the way, there will be plenty of “selfies” as the New Year rings in!
There was also a part of me that existed before I met Jesus. After I met Him, my perspective on many things changed. My lifestyle is different. My language is different. My habits are different. I now want to reflect His Presence in me. The “old me” wasn’t wired like that. Paul wrote some of the most powerful words on this and it’s had an impact on me for years. Check this out…
5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. 7 You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8 But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. (Colossians 3:5-10 NIV)
Out with the OLD self and in with the NEW self! I really need to take a closer look at my life today and see what needs to go and what needs to stay! (Hey-that rhymes!) I need to do a “selfie inventory”. I still have some things left around from the old me. I need to dispose of the old nature and restock my life with my new nature. I’m going to do some “heart cleaning” and “house cleaning” this week to make room for more of Him in my everyday walking around life!
Pressing On! Dwayne
