Self-Aware
Self-awareness is a giant gift that we hopefully give ourselves. If we think we are something special, a big shot or a super Christian, then we are not self-aware. I have been around people who thought that they were “God’s gift to the world”. They were pompous, arrogant, and filled with pride. They were unaware of how they presented themselves. I think this is a bummer. We were created to honor God Who created us.
The religious leaders and teachers of Jesus day were so full of themselves and their positions, they missed the Messiah Whom they had waited on for their entire lives. They missed Jesus because they thought way too highly of themselves. Jesus address this very clearly and these verses speak to me as well. Check this out…
12 When Jesus heard this, he said, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do.” 13 Then he added, “Now go and learn the meaning of this Scripture: ‘I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices.’ For I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.” (Matthew 9:12-13 NLT)
The scripture Jesus is referring to came from Hosea 6:6. Before we do amazing things for the Lord, we should learn to sit in His Presence and allow His Presence to sit in us. It takes great humility and awareness to let Him inside my soul each day.
When I realize what a loser I would be without Him, then I’m on the right track to learn from Him. When I keep my pride in check, I’m teachable and my heart is moldable. If I think I’m saved because of how good I am or something I’ve done, then I missed it. I am spiritually sick and I need Jesus to heal me each day. I am tainted with sin, and I need His forgiveness. I need Him to restore my soul today. I am a sinner and He saved me. I’m thankful beyond my ability to express.
Pressing On!
