Safe
I don’t get scared as easily as I once did. I am generally not too fearful of things. There are times when my heart rate is high and the unknown has me deeply concerned. I am teaching two teenagers to drive at the moment, so I’m not going to lie – I fear for my safety at times!
Jesus spent a good bit of time speaking of my relationship to Him as Him being the shepherd and I am part of the flock of sheep. The analogy is from Him and is really about Him as the Shepherd. As one of His sheep, my role is following Him wherever He leads. I can trust Him – totally trust Him. Check this out…
25 Jesus answered, “I did tell you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father’s name testify about me, 26 but you do not believe because you are not my sheep. 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.” (John 10:25-30 NIV)As I read this passage this morning, I felt my heart relax. I am safe in the arms of the Good Shepherd. I am safe in the arms of the One Who knows me by name and calls me His. No One can snatch me out of the arms of The Lord. I am safe there. I can relax there. I can rest there in His arms. I was reminded of the song “Safe” by Phil Wicham.
To the one whose dreams have fallen all apart And all you’re left with is a tired and broken heart I can tell by your eyes you think you’re on your own But you’re not alone Have you heard of the One who can calm the raging seas Give sight to the blind, pull the lame up to their feet With a love so strong it never lets you go No you’re not alone You will be safe in His arms. You will be safe in His arms The hands that hold the world are holding your heart This is the promise He made, He will be with you always When everything is falling apart, you will be safe in His arms Did you know that the voice that brings the dead to life Is the very same voice that calls you now to rise So hear Him now, He’s calling you home. You will never be alone Cause these are the hands that built the mountains, the hands that calm the sea These are the arms that hold the lame and they are holding you and me These are the hands that heal the leper pull the lame up to their feet These are the arms were nailed to the cross to break our chains and set us freeI am safe in the arms of the Creator/Good Shepherd. He will carry me if I need a lift. He will hold my hand if I need strength. He is ALWAYS THERE for me and with Him is the safest place on earth.
