Rock Solid Faith
I was reminded of my sweet grandmother (Mammie) who loved the Lord and wasn’t shy about it. I remember her speaking truth from God just in the every day routine of things. She had a relationship with God that was obvious. She imparted her faith to her family. My mom was recipient of that deep faith and passed it on to her children. I am a strong believer today because of my parents and my grandparent’s faith. I have investigated what I was taught and it all checked out. Paul commends Timothy as having a rock solid faith because of the heritage of faith given him by his mother and grandmother. Check this out…
3 I thank God, whom I serve, as my ancestors did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. 4 Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy. 5 I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also. 6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. (2 Timothy 1:3-7 NIV)
I don’t think my faith compares to Timothy, but it blessed me to think back at my own faith journey. I know that I had to figure some things out on my own, but I just knew whenever I had a question, I could go to Mammie or Mom. As I grew and matured, I realized that their answers came from their journey in the Word of God. I now know what I know because the Lord has spoken into my heart through the study of the His Word.
My rock solid faith is based on God’s Word and how His Spirit lives and breathes through the study of His Word. I want to stay anchored in the Word of God all the days of my life and I pray that His Spirit and my knowledge of His Word can help my children and their children and anyone else I meet along the way.
Pressing On! Dwayne
