Resuscitate My Heart
I’ve never performed Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on an individual or I’ve never had it performed on me (thankfully). It is a lifesaving technique useful in many emergencies, including heart attack or near drowning, in which someone’s breathing or heartbeat has stopped. I’ve actually had training in CPR several years ago. I’m not sure I would do it correctly if faced with the situation where I needed it, but I believe I would sure try. The idea of the technique is to keep the heart and blood pumping by doing chest compressions until more definitive treatment can restore the heart to proper rhythm. Our heart is probably the most vital organ in our body and serves as a control center and pump for our life-giving blood to make to all our extremities.
In spiritual terms my heart is truth of my identity. The Proverb writer says: “As water reflects the face, so one’s life reflects the heart”. (Proverbs 27:19) I need the Lord to help me keep my heart in good working order. Check this out….
6 Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you? 7 Show us your unfailing love, Lord, and grant us your salvation. (Psalm 85:6-7 NIV)
The Creator of my heart also knows my heart. He knows what a healthy heart full of His love looks like. He also knows what a diseased heart corrupt with self-centered plaque looks like too. I’m learning that to keep my heart clean and pure, I must consistently seek Him and search His will for me. I must keep pouring His truth into my heart to keep it healthy. It is way too easy to fill my heart with selfish pursuits and unhealthy ideas. I need the Creator/Great Physician to help me keep my heart healthy. There are times when I need him to resuscitate/restart my heart. When I really reflect on His love for me, my heart is super receptive to His Presence in me.
