Rest
I was taught physical work when I was a kid growing up. My parents had lots of work to do around our mini farm. There were cows to milk in the morning and the evening. There were weeds to pull and a garden to tend. We had a lot of grass to cut as well. I almost forgot about the hayfields and the tobacco crop. I’m not afraid of physical labor, but the older I get, I try to work smarter rather than harder.
The work I do today is a lot more mental than physical. I work a lot from my computer doing research on the real estate market and studying surveys and comparable sales. There is a different kind of stress for sure. I want to be clear and sharp so that I can serve my clients with the highest professional skill. I definitely have room for improvement. Earlier this year, I felt like I was mentally overloaded and stressed out.
I came across a familiar passage from Jesus that reminded me that He’s in charge IF I will just let Him be in charge. Check this out…
28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30 NLT)
As I learn to trust the Lord with the detail of my life, I find that He keeps this promise. His Presence always gives me perspective. If I can reflect on His Word, I find wisdom and wise counsel. His Spirit directs my path when I pause to listen.
I want to simply live in the Presence of the Lord not worrying about what others think I should do or should be. I enjoy mental and physical rest because no matter how hard the work I must do; the Lord provides strength to work and the space to rest. The harder I work, the more significant the rest feels to my heart and soul.
Pressing On!
