Reputation

A good reputation is built up over time with consistent behavior that is honorable. The word is defined as: “the general opinion or belief that are generally held about someone or something”.  To a large extent, my behavior today affects my reputation today and going forward.  When a teacher is too strict, they have that reputation with the students. Or if a teacher is too tolerant of misbehavior, then they have a reputation of being a “push over”.  My reputation is something that I have some control over, but it’s more about how I’m perceived. As a believer, Christ calls me to a certain lifestyle and behavior. He wants my life to be a testimony of His Presence in me. He calls me to respect and honor others. He calls me to love others.

As a REALTOR, I’ve pledged to act and honor a certain Code of Ethics in my business and in my life.  I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t do everything right. In fact, I make mistakes every day. I will say though that I don’t make intentional mistakes or try to harm others intentionally. Taking care of my reputation is very important to me. I’ve had people who try to influence me to act on their behalf even if it’s the wrong thing for me to do. I want to be found living a good life and doing the right thing when faced with a choice.

I loved Andy Stanley’s book, “The Best Question Ever”, it gives insight in to how ask the right question before proceeding with action. Each action of my life builds up or tears down my reputation as a Christ follower. I don’t ever want to hurt the Lord or His Church by misbehavior or lack of action. I want to live a good life that honors Him and serves others because He’s called me too!
