Repentant

Abstract Silhouette PrayingI learned a long time ago to take responsibility for my own behavior. I learned that it doesn’t help to try and blame someone else for my mistakes or my decisions. I had to learn to take ownership of my choices.  I think the Lord is pleased when we take responsibility for our choices and turn from doing wrong and return to the right way – His way of doing things.  Jonah learned a valuable lesson after running from God. Check this out…

The Lord spoke his word to Jonah again and said, 2 “Get up, go to the great city Nineveh, and preach to it what I tell you to say.”
So Jonah obeyed the Lord and got up and went to Nineveh. It was a very large city; just to walk across it took a person three days. 4 After Jonah had entered the city and walked for one day, he preached to the people, saying, “After forty days, Nineveh will be destroyed!”
5 The people of Nineveh believed God. They announced that they would fast for a while, and they put on rough cloth to show their sadness. All the people in the city did this, from the most important to the least important.
10 When God saw what the people did, that they stopped doing evil, he changed his mind and did not do what he had warned. He did not punish them. (Jonah 3:1-5, 10 NCV)

It all started with obedience from Jonah. A huge city was saved from the punishment from God because Jonah repented and obeyed. There are times when I simply need someone to point out the error of my way and it jolts me and “wakes me up” to my misbehavior. There are times when my kids have done something wrong. It’s refreshing to see a repentant spirit because obedience will follow. I’m inclined as a parent to bestow mercy and less punishment when I see a repentant spirit.

I believe that repentance and obedience operate hand in hand. Sometimes obedience leads to repentance. I believe that repentance leads to obedience 100% of the time.  The Creator has made it clear in His Word, as to why we were created. When I stray off of that call upon my life, I need to repent and return to obeying His call upon my life. He is so patient with me in this process. I am really thankful for His Mercy and Grace over my life.

Pressing On!
Dwayne
