Repent – Repeat!
I was thinking of the directions on a shampoo bottle…. 1. Put shampoo in your hair and lather up. 2. Rince completely. 3. Repeat. I usually feel like once is enough, because I’m thinking the manufacture of the shampoo wants you to use more product and spend more money with them! I think repentance is like that. I have to repeat my repentance often.
If I had a dollar for every time I’ve repented, I’d be a wealthy man. I see repentance as me acknowledging my sin before God. By His Grace, He forgives me over and over again. I’m humbled and grateful for His amazing Grace.
As I was reading Peter’s challenge to the Jewish leaders who had been responsible for Jesus’ death, he boldly called them to repentance. Check this out….
19 Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away. 20 Then times of refreshment will come from the presence of the Lord, and he will again send you Jesus, your appointed Messiah. (Acts 3:19-20 NLT)
I want the Presence of Jesus in my life. If I repent often, I’m making more room for Him in my life. I know me and I need to repent and repeat often. I think repentance is a good check on my heart. I think repentance is healthy and helpful. If I find myself repenting of the same sin over and over again, I might need accountability and help from fellow Christ follower. Repentance is critical for the infusion of the Presence of Jesus.
Pressing On!
