Reminder
I remember being told to tie a string around my finger to remember something important. If I look down at the string, I would be reminded of something I’m supposed to go or something I’m supposed to do. I have a wedding ring on my finger that serves as a reminder of my commitment to my wife. I’m pledged and committed only to her. I have an app on my phone that reminds me when I arrive at a certain place or when a certain time of day comes along. I love reminders because my memory is not quite what it once was.
The Lord gave us a reminder of a covenant He made with Noah for all mankind. The covenant reminder was for Him as well. Check this out…
8 Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him: 9 ‘I now establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you 10 and with every living creature that was with you – the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you – every living creature on earth. 11 I establish my covenant with you: never again will all life be destroyed by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.’
12 And God said, ‘This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: 13 I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. (Genesis 9:8-13 NIV)
I saw a rainbow a week or so ago and was reminded of God’s promise. Our God is a God of Love and Mercy. He never goes back on His promises. He is faithful to keep every single one of them. He helps me keep my promises. He reminds me through His Word who I am and Whose I am.
I want to begin my day with the Lord because everything else I have to do today is less important than my time with Him. I don’t need a reminder because I have a habit of spending time with Him first. Because I start my day with the Lord, I can walk closer with Him the whole daylong. I’m thankful for reminders along the journey. I can look back and see where I’ve been with the Lord and then I can anticipate where He and I are headed.
Pressing On!
