Rely On Grace
I kind of like this word rely. It means to “depend on with full trust and confidence”. I rely on lots of people. I rely on machines, like my truck or my computer.
I came across these two words as Paul and Barnabas were going on their first missionary journey. Their teaching was so well received that the people wanted more. They wanted to know more about Jesus. They were hungry and thirsty for more. Check this out…
42 As Paul and Barnabas left the synagogue that day, the people begged them to speak about these things again the next week. 43 Many Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, and the two men urged them to continue to rely on the grace of God. (Acts 13:42-43 NLT)
What does it mean to rely on the grace of God? I think that I often rely on the Grace of God without thinking much about it. The very fact that I am confident of my salvation, means I’m relying on God’s grace. I know me. I know the things I’ve done. I know the things I’ve said. I know the things I’ve thought. The thing is that God knows them too and He has forgiven me completely because of His Grace.
I do want to know more about the Lord.
I want to know more about what He’s doing.
I need to lean in and rely on the Grace of God when I don’t know things. I need to rely on the Grace of God when I’m confused. I need to rely on the Grace of God when I’m hurt. I need to rely on the Grace of God even when all is well, and I’m filled with joy and gladness.
The bottom line: I need to rely on the Grace of God every day – all day.
Pressing On!
