Relief
This word means rest and relaxation after a time of stress or anxiety. I love the sense of relief after I’ve felt stress. It’s like a calming time and even an opportunity to breathe in. I believe that the presence of the Lord in my life brings me relief when others might be totally stressed out. I want to continue to walk with Him in relief, even in the middle of stress. He’s got this – whatever this is. Check this out…
1 Lord, hear my prayer, listen to my cry for mercy; in your faithfulness and righteousness come to my relief. 2 Do not bring your servant into judgment, for no one living is righteous before you. 8 Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life. 9 Rescue me from my enemies, Lord, for I hide myself in you. 10 Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground. (Psalm 143:1-2;8-10 NIV)
I believe that prayer is a great way to find relief. In prayer, I’m turning everything over to the Lord and asking for His help. I believe as I grow in my trust of the Lord, that the morning can bring a fresh new day. As I trust the Lord to show me the way, I find relief. I love the line: “I hide myself in you”. Letting the Lord have control over every single thing in my life gives me great relief and peace. I’m simply “out of my league” when it comes to this level of control. I love this Psalm as it speaks to surrender and trust rather than accomplishment in order to have relief. Relief comes because of Who the Lord is and what He’s doing instead of what I’m doing.
