Regular Check-Up
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned the importance of regular check-ups at my doctor’s office. I’m not sure when I went from an annual check-up to bi-annual check ups. I guess it had something to do with age! I’m trying to embrace my “old fart” status. These check-ups keep up with the condition of my body’s “infrastructure” – things like my lungs, my heart and especially my blood. The blood is often an early detection of something else that is going on in the body. Blood work often reveals the presence of infection anywhere in my body. I don’t particularly like the inconvenience of a regular check-up, but I do see the real value in it.
The Psalmist, King David speaks of a regular spiritual check-up. I most definitely need that too. Check this out…
2 Test me, Lord, and try me, examine my heart and my mind; 3 for I have always been mindful of your unfailing love and have lived in reliance on your faithfulness. (Psalm 26:2-3 NIV)
“Here’s my heart Lord, speak what is true” …. a great song written and recorded by David Crowder. I love the intimate nature of this song asking the Lord to investigate my heart and call out what needs to be called out.
Here’s my heart Lord…. Speak what is true ‘Cause I am found, I am Yours I am loved, I’m made pure I have life, I can breathe I am healed, I am free Here’s my heart Lord…. Speak what is true ‘Cause I am found, I am Yours I am loved, I’m made pure I have life, I can breathe I am healed, I am free ‘Cause You are strong, You are sure You are life, You endure You are good, always true You are light breaking through Here’s my heart Lord…. Speak what is true Here’s my life Lord…. Speak what is true I am found, I am Yours I am loved, I’m made pure I have life, I can breathe I am healed, I am free ‘Cause You are strong, You are sure You are life, You endure You are good, always true You are light breaking through You are more than enough You are here, You are love You are hope, You are grace You’re all I have, You’re everything Here’s my heart Lord…. Speak what is true Here’s my life Lord…. Speak what is trueA great song for my daily check-up!
