Refuge

protected homeI love and hate the concept of refuge. This word means: 1. Shelter or protection from danger, trouble, etc.: 2. A place of shelter, protection, or safety. 3. Anything to which one has recourse for aid, relief, or escape. (From dictionary.com) I’m so thankful to be a place of refuge for my family. I’m also very thankful that the Lord is a refuge for both my family and me. He never lets me down or forgets to take care of me. David describes the Lord as a place of refuge many times through out the Psalms. Check this out….

16 But I will sing of your strength,

    in the morning I will sing of your love;

for you are my fortress,

    my refuge in times of trouble.
17 You are my strength,
I sing praise to you;

    you, God, are my fortress,

    my God on whom I can rely. (Psalm 59:16-17 NIV)

My family and friends provide a place of refuge for me. I can go to my parent’s house or my in-laws home and find a place of refuge. I may have done something really stupid and they always welcome me as a son. I am always going to provide that sort of refuge for my children as well.

The Lord provides the ultimate refuge because not only does He keep me safe and secure, He goes on the offense to protect me and secure me. He has power and presence that is beyond measure. He has unlimited resources. With Him as my refuge, I’m safe and can rest.

Pressing On!
Dwayne
