Redeem

A Crown Of ThornsA large majority of homeowners in the United States pay a mortgage payment each month to redeem their mortgage. The money paid to the mortgage company each month is one step closer to redeeming their home from being a debt to an asset. This word redeem is often easier to describe than it is to live out. In the US it’s really easy to get into debt but the redeeming part is a lot tougher.

Hosea is speaking of a similar type of debt that I need to be redeemed from. I owe the Lord for my life. He really wants me to trust Him with our heart’s devotion and our minds attention. Check this out…

13 Woe to them,

because they have strayed from me!

Destruction to them,

because they have rebelled against me!

I long to redeem them

but they speak about me falsely.

14 They do not cry out to me from their hearts

    but wail on their beds.

They slash themselves, appealing to their gods

    for grain and new wine,

but they turn away from me.

15 I trained them and strengthened their arms,

but they plot evil against me.

16 They do not turn to the Most High;

they are like a faulty bow.

Their leaders will fall by the sword

    because of their insolent words.

For this they will be ridiculed

in the land of Egypt. (Hosea 7:13-16 NIV)

The Lord created me and then gave me the freedom to make the choice to follow Him or abandon Him. He built me for relationship with Him. He wired me to need Him, yet in my arrogance and pride I often live as if I don’t know Him or need Him. He longs to redeem me from sin. He wants a close relationship with me. He has done His part, I must daily do my part. I want to pursue the Lord from my heart and give Him the authority to direct my life. He has earned the right to redeem me because of His great love that I’ve seen and experienced first hand.

Pressing On!
