Raise Your Hand
I remember as a kid raising my hand in class in order to ask a question. I was not allowed just to blurt out the question. I had to raise my hand and be called on by the teacher in order to ask the question. That gesture is still used in classrooms today. If you have a question, raise your hand and the teacher will then call on you.
I have questions all the time to ask the Lord. I don’t always raise my hand because He is ready and willing to answer. He is my teacher too, but it’s one on one. A classroom of 25 or 30 other kids does not distract him. He walks with me, talks and teaches me as I go on this journey with Him. I came across this simple, short Psalm that speaks to worship and praise in the journey. Check this out…
1 Praise the Lord, all you servants of the Lord, you who serve at night in the Temple of the Lord. 2 Raise your hands in the Temple and praise the Lord. 3 May the Lord bless you from Mount Zion, he who made heaven and earth. (Psalm 134:1-3 NCV)I remember the first time I saw someone raise their hand in worship. I was a bit nervous and uncomfortable. I didn’t understand. I remember the first time I raised my hands in worship. The worship leader explained that his young child learning to walk would waddle over to where Dad stood and hold up his hands as if to say, “hold me Daddy” or “pick me up Daddy”. I became comfortable with raising my hands in worship. There is not rhyme or reason why I raise one hand and then both. I simply stand in awe of Who God is and what He’s doing in my heart and life. I raise my hands in worship and surrender to the One Who is All in All. He loves it when I have a question, and He loves it when I praise Him with heart and hands surrendered to Him.
