Promises

I have made many promises over the years. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned the weight of promises and I try to make fewer spontaneous promises. I try to be careful and discerning about the promises I make. Promises kept speak to the integrity of the person making the promise. I take the promises I make very seriously – this is what I was taught by my parents and grandparents from a very young age.

God has made promises over the years to His people. He has kept His promises, but unfortunately, they haven’t kept their promise to God. I can relate to that. My promises to God over the years have been more “breakable” than my promise to people. As a younger man, I didn’t understand all of the ramifications and consequences of breaking promises I made to God.

Moses is God’s chosen leader to lead the Israelite people out of Egypt. God has heard their struggle. He reminds Moses of Who He is and the promises He’s made. Check this out….

And God said to Moses, “I am Yahweh—‘the Lord.’I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as El-Shaddai—‘God Almighty’—but I did not reveal my name, Yahweh, to them. And I reaffirmed my covenant with them. Under its terms, I promised to give them the land of Canaan, where they were living as foreigners. You can be sure that I have heard the groans of the people of Israel, who are now slaves to the Egyptians. And I am well aware of my covenant with them. (Exodus 6:2-5 NLT)

God remembers His promises.

God keeps His promises.

I’ve made a promise to God that I will follow Him. I believe in Jesus Christ; His ONLY Son and I’ve accepted Him as my Lord.  Jesus gave His life so that I might have life. The life I’m living out now is Him living in me and through me.

20 My old self has been crucified with Christ.  It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (Galatians 2:20 NLT)

I live my life every day trusting God. He has kept EVERY promise to me. I’m living out my promise to Him and the cool thing is – He’s helping me live out my promise to Him. His Presence in me helps me be a promise keeper.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
