Pride & Arrogance

Man with arrogant expressionPride is a “feeling of deep pleasure and satisfaction derived from one’s own achievements or the achievements of someone very close” to me – like one of my kids. Arrogance is “having an exaggerated sense of ones own abilities and importance. These two can be closely related when I’ve accomplished something that I’m proud to be part of or something that I built or created. In my journey with the Lord, I’ve learned to give Him credit because He (not me) is the Source of all good things. The Lord is not a fan of pride and arrogance. Check this out…

6 We have heard of Moab’s pride –
    how great is her arrogance! –
of her conceit, her pride and her insolence;
    but her boasts are empty.
12 When Moab appears at her high place,
    she only wears herself out;
when she goes to her shrine to pray,
    it is to no avail. (Isaiah 16:6,12 NIV)

I am a proud Dad of 5 kids. I can tell you some incredible stories of their life journey. I love them so very deeply and dearly. I’ve learned that they too are a gift from the Lord. I must give Him credit for their successes. He has taught me about being a Dad because of the kind of Father He is to me. I can’t take the credit for the blessings and success that the Lord has given me. He has made me who I am and what I am. I can’t imagine my life without Him. I can’t try to steal the credit when I know it belongs to Him. Without Him in my life, I’m nothing. Without Him I have no hope. With Him I can walk in confidence knowing that He cares for me; He supplies my needs; He guards my steps. My trust is in the Lord NOT in any ability or gifts that I may possess.

Pressing On!
