Praying Perspective

I remember observing praying people when I was a young kid. Zach Webb prayed at church and prayed the same prayer every time he was called upon to pray.  My mammie was a quiet prayer warrior. Her faith was on display as she simply lived her life for others to notice. She was a student of God’s Word as well. She was a prayer warrior with the best of them. One of the coolest prayers that I heard as young youth pastor started out, “Good evening Lord” and then the gentleman began a kind and gentle conversational prayer with God. I loved it.

I also heard a preacher boldly proclaim that “prayer changes nothing. God changes things when we pray.” As I grew in my faith, I realized that the preacher was partly wrong – prayer changes me. When I pray, I’m humble. I need the Lord to help. I need the Lord to hear. Jesus set a great example of prayer all throughout His life and ministry. He clearly wanted to stay connected to the Father.

After feeding thousands of people and interacting with them, He slips off alone for some prayer perspective. Check this out…

22 Immediately after this, Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and cross to the other side of the lake, while he sent the people home. 23 After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone. (Matthew 14:22-23 NLT)

Prayer is simply communication with the Lord.

Prayer is about listening, NOT just me talking.

Prayer changes my heart.

Prayer changes my mind.

Prayer gives me God’s Perspective.

Prayer reminds me of healing.

Prayer reminds me of hope.

Prayer helps me through struggle.

Prayer helps me through suffering.

Prayer helps me give God credit for blessings and favor.

Prayer helps keep me grounded.

Prayer helps keep me humble.

Prayer helps keep me grateful.

Prayer helps me to keep growing.

Prayer can make me a better listener.

Prayer can make me a better Christ follower, husband, Dad, friend and REALTOR.

Prayer should be constant and consistent.

I need to pray all the time and I need to carve out some specific time to pray specifically. I need the Lord’s perspective on every regular stuff I face in life and in business every day throughout my day.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
