Pray

I remember hearing the debate about prayer in school as I was growing up. I also remember hearing a comment that “as long as there are tests in school; there will be prayer”!  I grew up being taught to pray. I remember an older gentleman at church who prayed the exact same prayer every time he was called upon. I remember hearing my grandparents pray. I remember hearing my parents pray. I remember specific people who could word a beautiful prayer. I remember a man in Maryville, TN who started his prayer with “Good Evening Lord” or “Good Morning” – very warm and casual words.

I think that over the years, I’ve made prayer way more complicated and even cumbersome. When Jesus taught His disciples about prayer, it was rather basic and simple. One day, as He was leaving Bethany, there was a fig tree that didn’t bear figs and He said to the tree: “May you never bear fruit again!” His disciples noticed that the tree withered immediately. They were stunned. He ended up teaching them about prayer as this incident unfolded. He closed the conversation with a simple, but profound statement about prayer. Check this out…

22 You can pray for anything, and if you have faith, you will receive it.” (Matthew 21:22 NLT)

Did He really mean anything? YES!

Who measures my faith? The Father

I think it’s on me to trust Him.

I think it’s on me to have faith.

I sometimes think of myself as a prayer warrior and at other times, I think I’m a prayer wimp. I want my faith to grow deep and wide so that my prayers are always noticed by the One Who can answer any prayer I pray.

Pressing On!
