Powerful Posture
In the past, I haven’t given posture much care and attention. I’m not just speaking of how, the older I get the shorter I get! I’m also not speaking of slouching. I’m talking of the posture I choose when I’m around another person. Posture is not all about physical position. It can also be about position in a discussion or debate. I can come across as a bully or a friend when trying to work through a difficult problem.
After King Solomon built the temple, he had a dedication service. I noticed his posture in speaking before the people and leading them. Check this out….
12 Then Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in front of the entire community of Israel, and he lifted his hands in prayer. 13 Now Solomon had made a bronze platform 7 1⁄2 feet long, 7 1⁄2 feet wide, and 4 1⁄2 feet high and had placed it at the center of the Temple’s outer courtyard. He stood on the platform, and then he knelt in front of the entire community of Israel and lifted his hands toward heaven. (2 Chronicles 6:12-13 NLT)
The physical posture of my body should represent what is going on in my heart.
The posture in conversation should reveal my heart as well.
The Lord wants my heart surrendered to Him.
I think respect sets the tone for my posture toward another. If I don’t respect them, I will not treat them properly according to the Lord’s call upon my heart. I would be wise to pay close attention to my non-verbal posture as well as the tone of my voice toward others. The Lord can see past all of that to hear my heart too. Humans are not always great a looking past the external posture to the posture of the heart. I want others whom I come into contact with to notice the posture of my heart more than my physical posture and even the tone of my voice.
Pressing On!
