Plea

Young man suffering pain on his chest, isolated on whiteIt looks to me like that this word is too short! The word “Plea” means: “a serious and emotional request for something”. * It is usually associated with the court of law where a person enters a plea before the court of “guilty or not guilty.” There are other words that are derived from the word plea. The word “plead”, “pleaded” and “please” come from that simple, one-syllable word. I think this word reveals a position of petition. I need something from someone else. I try to say “please” when I’m asking someone for something. If I don’t use this word, it’s more like a demand than a request.

Moses pleaded with God on behalf of his people. He asked for The Presence and Power of God to be with them. Check this out…

8 Moses bowed to the ground at once and worshipped. 9 ‘Lord,’ he said, ‘if I have found favor in your eyes, then let the Lord go with us. Although this is a stiff-necked people, forgive our wickedness and our sin, and take us as your inheritance.’

10 Then the Lord said: ‘I am making a covenant with you. Before all your people I will do wonders never before done in any nation in all the world. The people you live among will see how awesome is the work that I, the Lord, will do for you. (Exodus 34:8-10 NIV)

Every time I come before the Lord I’m entering a “guilty plea”. I am an imperfect and sinful human being, but I’m a child of the King. He has set aside my guilty plea because of the sacrifice of His Son – I am guilt free because of grace. He has removed my sin and He has cleaned me up. My plea before the Lord is always going to include forgiveness. My plea will also include favor from Him. I will also plea for direction and discernment. When I make my plea before Him, He responds. I will continue to make my plea and I will take a position of humility in His Presence.

Pressing On!
