Plan & Pivot

There are times when my plans happen exactly as I’ve laid them out. There are other times when things go “south” and I have to call an “audible” – in other words – pivot. In basketball, there is a pivot foot – which means one foot is anchored (pivot foot) and the other foot can change in any direction as long as the pivot foot is anchored.  My plans are subject to the Lord’s plans every time. I’ve learned that the best laid plans still have many variables that are outside the scope of my control.

I was reading about a queen mother, who after her son is killed, decided to take over. The Lord has a plan that takes 7 years to come to lights. Check this out….

1When Athaliah, the mother of King Ahaziah of Judah, learned that her son was dead, she began to destroy the rest of the royal family. But Ahaziah’s sister Jehosheba, the daughter of King Jehoram, took Ahaziah’s infant son, Joash, and stole him away from among the rest of the king’s children, who were about to be killed. She put Joash and his nurse in a bedroom, and they hid him from Athaliah, so the child was not murdered. Joash remained hidden in the Temple of the Lord for six years while Athaliah ruled over the land.

In the seventh year of Athaliah’s reign, Jehoiada the priest summoned the commanders, the Carite mercenaries, and the palace guards to come to the Temple of the Lord. He made a solemn pact with them and made them swear an oath of loyalty there in the Lord’s Temple; then he showed them the king’s son.

12 Then Jehoiada brought out Joash, the king’s son, placed the crown on his head, and presented him with a copy of God’s laws. They anointed him and proclaimed him king, and everyone clapped their hands and shouted, “Long live the king!” (2 Kings 11:1-4, 12 NLT)

I’m blown away by a 7-year-old king.

I’ve learned to never underestimate the plans of God.

I’ve learned that He is never surprised by a sudden turn of events.

I’ve learned that His Ways are much higher than my ways.

I’ve learned to trust Him and His plans for me.

I believe the Lord loves to be included in all of my plans. After all, my plans are all subject to His Will and His Way for me. He built me and wired me to live, learn and even lead. My leadership is always subject to His Will. The Lord has had me pivot many times too.

I had a lot of plans for this year, but I’ve had to pivot on many of them due to COVID-19 pandemic. I don’t believe the Lord was caught off guard by the pandemic. I am having lots of conversations with Him asking for Him to help us pivot. I’m also praying for a vaccine.  When I’m holding tight to the Hand of God, my plans and pivots don’t seem super drastic – they seem quite normal. To the outside person looking in, they may think I’m crazy.

I will keep planning and pivoting as the Lord leads. I want to honor Him with my life activities for sure.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
