Pay It Forward
There are opportunities every day to invest in the future. I think it’s wise to prepare for some of the unknowns that could happen to us. At the same time, the Lord talks about living for him in the here and now. If we get so caught up living for the future we can’t smell the fragrance of the flowers today. We can be so busy preparing to live that we never really live. Jesus taught about priorities and how our actions do matter toward our eternity. Check this out…
34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ 37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ 40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ (Matthew 25:34-40 NIV)God cares about the broken hearted and downtrodden people around me. He cares about the people who are thirsty in our world. He cares about the hungry. I am to be the hands and feet of Jesus to the hungry, thirsty, strangers all around me and around the world. One of my major weaknesses is reaching out to people in prison. Jesus clearly cares about people in prison because they are mentioned here with the hungry and thirsty. I’ve always been a little freaked out by the people in prison because some of them have done some pretty notorious things and they scare me. I’ve got to find a way to minister them and overcome some of my fears. I am called by the Lord to serve others and not just take the easy route to that end. This “rattles my cage” a bit. I am so thankful that the Lord is patient with me as I figure this one out. I so want to honor Him with the “least of these” and invest in my eternity by serving others. This serving includes serving the unlovable, beaten down people all around me.
