Other Idols
I remember years ago thinking how stupid it is to have a little wooden idol or even a gold covered idol that you call a god and worship that thing. That inanimate object is made from materials that come from the earth. I worship, serve and trust God who MADE the earth and the material that that god was made form.
Since that time, I’ve gained an understanding that idols are much more than just those little carved creatures. Idols can be just about anything or anyone on the planet. I probably possess a few “electronic idols”. There are idols of the heart that keep me from really trusting the Lord fully and seeking Him with my whole heart.
The people of Israel were on the cusp of going into the land promised them by God to and settling there. Moses was relaying messages from the Lord about dealing with idols and people who worship them. He tags this passage with a small verse that sums it up. Check this out….
18 “The Lord your God will be merciful only if you listen to his voice and keep all his commands that I am giving you today, doing what pleases him. (Deuteronomy 13:18 NLT)
I have to check my heart daily and make sure I can hear the voice of God in the midst of all the noise of this life. I am busy, but I NEVER want to be too busy to listen to His voice and His counsel in my life.
I want to make sure that all the “idols of my heart” have been placed at the feet of Jesus and totally surrender my heart to Him. I trust Him with my success as a REALTOR (Idol). I trust Him with my family (Idol). I trust Him with my finances (Idol). I trust Him with my influence (Idol). I’m thankful for His leadership and His provision in my life.
I am blessed
I am called
I am healed
I am whole.
I am saved in Jesus’ Name! (God, You’re So Good)
Pressing On!
