Offensive Prayers
Most of the time when I pray, I’m asking the Lord for something I need specifically. I might also ask for His protection over my family and me. I ask a lot for His provision for my family and me. I also find myself interceding on behalf of another friend, or family member, whether blood relative or God’s family. I’ve never really been one to go on the offense against others with my prayer. That’s exactly what King David did at one point. Check this out…
6 I say to the Lord, “You are my God.” Hear, Lord, my cry for mercy. 7 Sovereign Lord, my strong deliverer, you shield my head in the day of battle. 8 Do not grant the wicked their desires, Lord; do not let their plans succeed. 9 Those who surround me proudly rear their heads; may the mischief of their lips engulf them. 10 May burning coals fall on them; may they be thrown into the fire, into miry pits, never to rise. 11 May slanderers not be established in the land; may disaster hunt down the violent. 12 I know that the Lord secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy. 13 Surely the righteous will praise your name, and the upright will live in your presence. (Psalm 140:6-13 NIV)
I need to go on the offense and pray against those who are trying to harm my family or me. I need to let the God of Justice handle it. When I pray more, I worry less. I really want to pray from the offensive side instead of simply playing defense. I’m not sure if I have these quotes correct, but a good defense is considered a good offense. If I can keep the other team from scoring, then there’s a lot less pressure on my team.
I don’t intend to stop praying for specific help from The Lord, but I think it might be a good idea to pray for the Lord to take down those trying to take me out. I will let Him handle it the way He needs to handle it.
