My Plans

If you were to review my calendar for today, you’d see that it is packed out through about 3 PM. I have multiple people to see and a sales meeting to lead. I’m thinking of taking my lunch just to put some space into my calendar. It’s a busy day ahead. I can only imagine how others calendar for today might look. The CEO of a Fortune 500 company has meetings back to back to back. He may feel like at times that his schedule is really not his. I learned a long time ago that there are times my plans, ebb and flow. There are times that is seems like my calendar is managing me instead of me managing it.

I have been working on laying out 2019 with my vacations, a couple of business trips and training for my team. I have some great plans for next year, but those plans can change in an instant. Solomon reminded me this morning that my plans are contingent upon God’s plans. Check this out….

1We can make our own plans,
but the Lord gives the right answer.

People may be pure in their own eyes,
but the Lord examines their motives.

Commit your actions to the Lord,
    and your plans will succeed.

9 We can make our plans,
but the Lord determines our steps.

18 Pride goes before destruction,
    and haughtiness before a fall.(Proverbs 16:1-3,9,18 NLT)

I love the early morning with the Lord. I can talk to Him about my plans. He always has insight into my plans for the day. He calms my heart when I’m anxious for the day ahead. He reminds me that today is not about me – it’s about honoring Him with my life. Honoring the Lord begins inside my heart and others see my heart via my activities.

The Lord has complete “veto power” over my plans. If He’s not in my plans, I don’t want to continue with them. He can be completely trusted with my calendar. He has my best interest in mind.

I remember hearing a saying a few years ago that said, “if you want to hear God laugh, tell Him your plans”. The closer I get to Him, I realize that He doesn’t laugh at my plans, but He can certainly amend them. I believe that He does love me. He knows what is best even when I don’t. He doesn’t force me to trust Him or love Him. He will guide my steps and help me walk in wisdom, when I seek Him. I try to seek Him for counsel instead of asking forgiveness for a stupid decision that I made without His counsel. He knew my strategy anyway.

I will trust the Lord with my plans today and every day. I will seek His counsel about what goes on my schedule. I will talk to Him about the future, because He’s the Holder of it.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
