My Lips
My brain controls the behavior of my lips. When I speak of lips I’m not just talking about my lips. I’m talking about what comes out of my mouth in the way of words. My brain controls that as well. My brain is the control center of my body. I don’t do a single thing without my brain telling me to do it. I have said things that are not good. I’ve wished many times for an “editing machine” for my mouth. Jesus gets really blunt with the Pharisee’s and teachers of the law after they questioned Him about His disciples breaking a religious tradition. Check this out….
8 “‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. 9 They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.’” (Isaiah 29:13) 10 Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen and understand. 11 What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.” (Matthew 15:8-11 NIV)The Lord wants me to surrender the control center of my body so that all of me will honor Him. That control center is often referred to as the heart. The heart is often referred to as emotional and intellectual part of body that controls the others. I believe our brain is both intellectual and emotional but it’s wired through our heart. My body needs both to function.
I think the Lord wants to get to the deepest part of me and change me there. Then everything thing else in my life will flow out of that deepest part of me – my soul. I think my soul is probably that combination of brain and heart – emotion and intellect. I see this as the decision making part of me. I want my worship to be from my heart, my soul, my brain and my lips. What comes from my lips really comes from my soul. The Lord wants my heart and soul surrendered to Him so that what comes from my lips will be a blessing to others.
