My Future Plans

Recently I was challenged to write what a perfect day would look like for me. I was to give as much detail as possible down to the sights and sounds of each minute. I was the dream about what my most perfect day on this planet would look like.  I have to confess that this was not an easy task. I’ve had some great days in my past – days I won’t soon forget. I’ve also had some very hard days in my past. I just know that the Lord is walking with me through the most perfect day as well as the hardest day.  Jeremiah is considered the “weeping prophet” because his message from the Lord was almost always “a bummer” for the people of Judah and Israel.

The Lord gives him a word for the people who are being punished by being taken captive in the land of Babylon. There is such positive hope and promise woven through the words the Lord gives. These words blessed me in my journey even though I’m not in captivity like the recipients of this message. Check this out…

 11I say this because I know what I am planning for you,” says the Lord. “I have good plans for you, not plans to hurt you. I will give you hope and a good future. 12Then you will call my name. You will come to me and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13You will search for me. And when you search for me with all your heart, you will find me! (Jeremiah 29:11-13 NCV)

As I make future plans, they will not only include the Lord – He will be in charge of them. I don’t want to do anything that He does not endorse or lay out before me. I want to walk in His will daily and His plans forever. I will not fear what is in front of me because He will walk with me through it. (This is easier to declare when life is good, simple and pretty smooth.) I must resolve to follow Him now so that when tough times come (and they do), I will still be in step with Him. He has my future, just like He has my past and present.  My perfect day will be a walk with the Lord and everything else will be subject to that.
