Music: Internal & External
I love music. It’s been called the universal language. It can inspire, encourage and comfort. I’m thankful for my Grandma Hicks who loved music and passed that love on to her family. She grew up in the mountains of Boone, NC and played the guitar since she was a little girl. I remember going to visit her in the nursing home in the latter years of her life and we would wheel her down to the common area and she would play for the other residents in the nursing home. I grew up listening to music and also learning to play guitar around age 12.
There are times that I love to simply sit and play guitar and make up a new melody or play a chord progression that seems new. There are other times that I like to play a simple worship song. I believe the Lord loves music. I don’t think He has a particular style, but I do think He pays close attention to the words and the Heart of the one singing or saying the words. Check this out…
1 It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High, 2 proclaiming your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night, 3 to the music of the ten-stringed lyreand the melody of the harp. 4 For you make me glad by your deeds, Lord; I sing for joy at what your hands have done. 5 How great are your works, Lord, how profound your thoughts! (Psalm 92:1-5 NIV)
I’m so thankful that most all of my children love music and they’re gifted in music. The Lord loves to hear my songs from my heart. I love hearing my kids sing and play music. I especially like to hear songs that they’ve written from their journey with the Lord.
Music moves my heart differently than a good book.
Music has passion and power to stir my heart.
Music affects my soul deep within.
I want to use music to say deep things to the Lord. I want Him to hear my heart and the commitment that I have to Him. Music helps me do that much more completely than just words.
Pressing On! Dwayne
