WHEN TO BUY: A MONTHLY GUIDE
By: Heather at simplysavemn.com
There are ideal times to buy a lot of things and if you time your purchases right you can save money all year long! This handy guide will remind you when to buy what and help you save money throughout the year!
January
Start the year with fresh sheets and linens during the White Sales in January! You can also find snack food at sale prices around the Super Bowl. Think soda, pizza, chips and dip, frozen appetizers, and possibly even beer!
Early January is a great time to purchase Christmas cards and decorations at low prices.
February
As winter comes to an end you’ll often find winter coats, clothes, and snow boots at heavily discounted prices to make room for spring clothes.
After Valentine’s Day you’ll find perfume gift sets, themed gift wrap, and candy at reduced prices.
March
Now is the time to buy small electronics! Like cars, electronics often come out with new versions each year and in March you can usually snag last year’s model for a good price! Just resist the temptation of the new models coming out…
March is a common time to gear up for spring cleaning so you can usually find good prices on items like cleaning supplies, trash bags, and paper towels.
April
As April kicks off wedding season you’ll start seeing deals on dishes, household items, and cookware. Sure, the nice discounts may be intended for wedding gifts, but we could all benefit from it!
After Easter is a great time to stock up on Easter baskets and decorations for next year.
May
Garage sales start popping up in May and run throughout the summer, but May is generally when people hold their first one. This is when you can pick from the good stuff before people hold their second or third sale later in the summer to try to get rid of the leftovers!
Find discounts on things like drink mixes, tortillas, salsa, peppers, and tortilla chips in early May for Cinco de Mayo. Burgers, buns, condiments, charcoal, paper plates, eating utensils, bug spray, and sunscreen go on sale to kick off barbecue season and Memorial Day.
June
Look for clearance items after Father’s Day such as ties, tool sets, boxed aftershave/deodorant sets, and greeting cards.
Keep an eye out for discounts on 4th of July decorations and groceries towards the end of the month.
July
The 4th of July will usher in sales on soda, burger fixings, condiments, utensils, and patriotic themed decorations, but July is also a common month for retailers to put nearly everything on sale! Swimsuits and summer clothing also go on sale as early as July to make way for the fall clothes.
August
Summer stuff goes on clearance as early as August! Think flip-flops, sunscreen, pool toys, swim suits, grills and grilling equipment, gardening supplies, patio furniture, and so on. You can also find good deals on lunch box items as parents gear up back to school, like snack sized items, pudding cups, granola bars, Lunchables, canned fruit, and lunch meat.
September
Scour the back to school section for deep discounts on notebooks, folders, pens, and general office supplies. Also keep an eye out for big Labor Day sales.
October
Now is the time to get that new home appliance you’ve been eying. This year’s models will be discounted to make way for new models. As winter creeps closer baking items will go on sale and you may also find some final good deals on summer items.
November
In early November look for next year’s Halloween costumes and decorations on clearance. Then brace yourself for good deals on all things Thanksgiving. Many stores have great grocery deals this month. At the end of month Black Friday and Cyber Monday usually have good deals on TVs and other electronics.
December
At the beginning of the month look for discounted grocery items leftover from Thanksgiving. Right after Christmas is the best time to stock up on decorations, Christmas cards, wrapping paper, etc.
Save Money All Year Long
Time your purchases with the sales and you can save money throughout the entire year!
