Money
I used to hear the saying that “Money can’t buy happiness.” My response was, “I’d sure like to see for myself. As I’ve gotten older, I realize that Solomon was wise and spot-on many of these wise sayings and proverbs. I’ve seen the love of money destroy marriages and families. I’ve seen the mismanagement of money be very destructive as well. Solomon speaks to some money issues in pretty plain terms. Check this out…
10 Whoever loves money will never have enough money; Whoever loves wealth will not be satisfied with it. This is also useless. 11 The more wealth people have, the more friends they have to help spend it. So what do people really gain? They gain nothing except to look at their riches. 12 Those who work hard sleep in peace; it is not important if they eat little or much. But rich people worry about their wealth and cannot sleep. (Ecclesiastes 5:10-12 NCV)I’d like to have the proper perspective on money. It is a medium or tool. It can be used for bad or it can be used for good. I’ve seen people with lots of money who are incredibly generous and kind. I’ve seen people with money who are aloof and proud. Money separates classes of people and often defines who people are. I think that people with money should let their heart define them and not their wealth. After all, that is the measurement tool that God uses.
I’ve learned that here in the USA, I am really considered middle class, but to the majority of the world, I’m wealthy. My wealth brings responsibility. I should seek to bless others because of how God has blessed me. I need to let my management of money reflect my heart – not define my heart.
