Loud Repentance
There are times in my life when my sin has been pretty loud. I mean it was out there and noticeable by pretty much everyone. There have also been times when my sin was pretty silent and no one knew of it except the Lord and me. In both situations and everywhere in between my sin would still be deadly except for the amazing grace provided through Jesus. He became the ultimate sacrifice for sin and because of Him I am forgiven.
Jeremiah was pronouncing judgment and destruction on the Israelites because of their loud and obnoxious sin against the Lord. His message was pounding them and there was no letting up. Then the Lord speaks to Jeremiah personally about saving him from what is coming. Check this out….
19 Therefore this is what the Lord says:
“If you repent, I will restore you
that you may serve me;
if you utter worthy, not worthless, words,
you will be my spokesman.
Let this people turn to you,
but you must not turn to them.
20 I will make you a wall to this people,
a fortified wall of bronze;
they will fight against you
but will not overcome you,
for I am with you
to rescue and save you,”
declares the Lord.
21 “I will save you from the hands of the wicked
and deliver you from the grasp of the cruel.” (Jeremiah 15:19-21 NIV)
I remember hearing a profound thought from a minister/friend that I used to work with in context of restoring someone who had sinned rather loudly. He said, “When repentance screams out louder than the sin, restoration can happen.” The situation was some loud sin from a person in leadership. I believe that the Lord forgives my loud sin with quiet repentance. I do believe that there are times for loud repentance to overcome loud sin and it’s mostly for leadership restoration. I want my repentant heart to always be heard louder than my sinful behavior.
Pressing On!
