Live It Out
I remember being told by my Mom when I was a youngster that someone is always watching what I do. As I’ve become a parent, over 30 years ago, I realize that is an “understatement”. I realize that my kids have been and still are watching what I do and how I live. They know me and are around me when it’s only us. The thing is, others are watching me too. They see me even when I don’t see them. I realize that others are watching from a distance, while some are watching close up. I have to keep my ego in check, because this does not mean that the world is a stage and I’m the star. It does mean, however, that what I say I believe and how I live should be in perfect harmony.
The Apostle Paul wrote a letter to Titus, one of his helpers in new church work, challenging him to teach with the Word and his life. Check this out….
1 As for you, Titus, promote the kind of living that reflects wholesome teaching.2 Teach the older men to exercise self-control, to be worthy of respect, and to live wisely. They must have sound faith and be filled with love and patience.
6 In the same way, encourage the young men to live wisely. 7 And you yourself must be an example to them by doing good works of every kind. Let everything you do reflect the integrity and seriousness of your teaching. 8 Teach the truth so that your teaching can’t be criticized. Then those who oppose us will be ashamed and have nothing bad to say about us.(Titus 2:1-2,6-8 NLT)
I remember when I learned that someone didn’t “like” me. I’ve had mild disagreements that turned into bitterness and anger on another person’s part. I am happy at any time to be asked to explain why I do what I do or why I did what I did. I’m not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but I answer to the Lord. He is a “tougher Critic” than any human being. I want my everyday work and interaction with friends, clients and customers to be healthy and honorable. It is NEVER my intention to harm anyone. I work in a profession where it would be easy to make a mistake and cover it. I also work in a profession where it’s honorable to help someone find their “forever home” or to make a decision regarding their investment that is critical to their well-being. I believe what the late Zig Ziglar said, “If you help enough people get what they want, then you’ll get what you want”. I decided a couple of years ago to stop working toward a sales volume goal and start working toward a transaction goal to serve a certain number of people each year in real estate. As a result of different thinking, my sales volume increased. It really is my goal to serve people in their life situation however I can to help them along the way. Sometimes it’s selling their home and at other times, it’s counseling them to wait or to do some improvements while they wait.
I want the activities of my day, whether it’s having coffee, lunch, a meeting, teaching, or a simple conversation about my family or my church to bring honor to the Lord. I want others to know that my heart belongs to Him. I want them to know this by how I live as much as what I say I believe.
Pressing On!
