Light It Up!
I love a good light show. One of my favorite lighting shows was at Stone Mountain Park. It was called the Stone Mountain Laser Show Spectacular and it is back for 2021! This show features fireworks, music and lasers sequenced to music. It’s a fun evening out – just a bit far away. I have recently enjoyed the subtle lighting at our church services.
Lighting can set the stage for almost any activity. Light can certainly wake you up. Light can be used to show the way. I think the older I get, the more I appreciate good light. There are several axioms regarding light….
Light simply expels darkness.
Light can’t co-exist with darkness.
The thicker the darkness, the more significant a small light becomes.
Jesus calls His followers to be the Light of the World. He was called the Light of the World and He calls on us to do the same. Check this out….
14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. (Matthew 5:14-16 NLT)
Jesus spends a ton of His teaching speaking about the heart and soul of each of us. In this passage, He challenges us to let our actions show for all to see, not so we can be noticed, but the Heavenly Father Who dwells in our heart is noticed. I was reminded of this song from years ago by DC Talk called “In The Light”
I wanna be in the light
As You are in the light
I wanna shine like the stars
In the heavens
Lord be my light
And be my salvation
All I want is to be
In the light of love
All I want is
To be in the light
I want people I meet and interact with to see the Light of the World living in me. I don’t want to be self-centered or selfish. I want to love like He loves. I want my actions to draw attention to the Jesus living in me. I want the activities of my day to push out the darkness and light things up so others can see Jesus!
Pressing On!
