Light It Up!

There are some people who come into a room and they simply seem to light it up! They are kind-hearted, funny and a joy to be around. They seem to know how to make things better with their presence.  I may or may not know them well, but the way they carry themselves and interact with others is fun to watch. I’ve also had the privilege of participating with people like this. They are way less concerned with themselves, than they are with others. They are also very secure in themselves. I believe this is who Jesus called His followers to become. Jesus is in our heart and His Presence should be displayed in how we live our day to day lives.

The Lord gave Moses some specific instructions in setting up the lampstands in the tabernacle. These instructions reminded me of my role as a light on behalf of God Himself. Check this out….

“Give Aaron the following instructions: When you set up the seven lamps in the lampstand, place them so their light shines forward in front of the lampstand.” So Aaron did this. He set up the seven lamps so they reflected their light forward, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. (Numbers 8:2-3 NLT)

When I read this, I made note that the Light was to project forward in front of the lampstand where they would be, not where they had been. The Lord will light my path, IF I will seek Him and trust Him to do so. It takes great trust and patience for me to let Him direct my journey. I am still learning to do this. I was reminded of the passage in Psalm 119. Check this out….

105 Your word is a lamp to guide my feet
and a light for my path. (Psalm 119:105 NLT)

I was also reminded that Jesus calls us (His followers) what He was called. Check this out…

14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. (Matthew 5:14-16 NLT)

I want to be a light for the Lord. I want others to see Him through me. I want to be a difference maker because of my journey with the Lord. I want to not have to speak for others to see Jesus in me.  I don’t want to “light up a room” to point to me, but to point to Jesus, the Light of the World!

Light is not loud – sound wise.

Light attracts attention to the Light – NOT the fixture.

Light gives direction.

Light is more beautiful and more significant, the darker the room.

I want to let others see Jesus in me by the way I live, serve and interact with them – before I ever speak a word.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
