Life
My life is quite busy most days. If I’m not careful, I will start living like this life is all that there is. I believe in life after death. I believe that our souls live on into eternity. I’ve never seen this with my physical eyes, but I believe in the Word of God. Jesus teaches about eternity very often and He also references those who’ve gone on before.
It takes eyes of faith to grasp what this might look life when I’m gone from this earth. Jesus spoke of a place that He’s preparing for those who love Him and believe in Him.
A big incident happened in the life of Jesus and his friends, Mary, Martha and Lazarus. He often stayed with them at their home in Bethany when He was close by. The two sisters sent word to Jesus that Lazarus was sick. Jesus didn’t go immediately but stayed on two more days where He was. He then went to see Mary, Martha & Lazarus. He told His disciples that Lazarus was “asleep”. Check this out….
21 Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask.”
23 Jesus told her, “Your brother will rise again.”
24 “Yes,” Martha said, “he will rise when everyone else rises, at the last day.”
25 Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. 26 Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?”
27 “Yes, Lord,” she told him. “I have always believed you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one who has come into the world from God.” (John 11:21-27 NLT)
Jesus goes to the grave site, a tomb. He asked them to roll the stone away and He calls Lazarus to come out. Lazarus comes out walking funny because of the grave clothes and wrapping around his head, body and feet. The people are blown away. They have never seen anything like this.
I would have loved to interview Lazarus. I would love to know if he got to meet Moses, Elijah, King David and many others in the few “days” he was “asleep”. A Christian artist named Carman, performed a song called “Lazarus” over 25 years ago. As I’m writing this, I learned that Carman passed away about 5 hours ago from his second round with cancer. He’s getting to meet the guys he wrote about in this song! He was a gift to the Kingdom of God for sure.
As I’ve studied the Word over the years, eternal life is woven throughout scripture. I believe that Jesus coming to earth made a way for me to have hope of eternal life. I’ve living in this life as preparation for eternal life with God. Heaven is the place prepared for me. I don’t want to fear death because of the HOPE of eternal life. The very Spirit of God Who is alive in me and walks with me will be with me when that time comes.
