Lead & Parent
One of the most rewarding things in my life has been the privilege of being a Dad. Parenting is the most fulfilling part of my life and at times the most frustrating part of my life. As a Dad to five kids, I’ve felt a tremendous amount of responsibility. I’ve also received blessings beyond my ability to count. I have 5 amazing kids who love the Lord and love me. There have been times where my role was unpopular as I tried to give guidance and direction. Check this out…
12 Apply your heart to instruction and your ears to words of knowledge. 13 Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish them with the rod, they will not die. 14 Punish them with the rod and save them from death. 15 My son, if your heart is wise, then my heart will be glad indeed; 16 my inmost being will rejoice when your lips speak what is right. 17 Do not let your heart envy sinners, but always be zealous for the fear of the Lord. 18 There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off. (Proverbs 23:12-18 NIV)
I feel like King Solomon is giving these wise sayings to his kid. I took them to heart and this morning I’m praying again for all my kids that they continue to pursue the heart of God with all that they are. I can remember praying over them at night when they were children that “they would grow up loving God and knowing how much He loves them”.
I believe my role as a parent is to first of all be a devoted follower of God. He made me and He wired me to be like Himself. He wants me to walk in His way. He also wants me to lead my family to know Him and love Him. My actions speak louder than my words could ever speak about what I believe about the Lord. I want my life to be a constant pursuit of the Lord’s heart. I want my family to follow my lead on that.
