Keep Calm
There are times that I’m very anxious in my spirit. I can get frustrated with someone or some thing. I can worry. I can be angry. I can be sad. My emotional swing can be quite large. This is not good for me as a follower of God. When I have major worry, major anger or major emotions, I might not trust the Lord as I ought. Check this out….
5 It is better to heed the rebuke of a wise person than to listen to the song of fools. 9 Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools. Whoever fears God will avoid all extremes. 19 Wisdom makes one wise person more powerful than ten rulers in a city. 20 Indeed, there is no one on earth who is righteous, no one who does what is right and never sins. (Ecclesiastes 5,9,19-20 NIV)
If you know me, you might be aware that being calm is not necessarily a strong suit of mine. I can get “fired up” with the best of them. I don’t necessarily want to live like that. I like to try to remain calm and properly assess any situation before responding. There are times that my emotion arrives on the scene first before “calm” shows up. I awoke from a nightmare this morning to be reminded to “trust in the Lord with all my heart and lean not on my own understanding.” I had just reminded my wife of this before going to sleep. Keeping calm is not as easy to practice as it is to preach. Life throws messy things at me sometime. Life throws urgent things at me sometimes. I want to calmly respond to each situation knowing the Lord holds all the wisdom and discernment that will point me in the right directions. I hear His voice best when I settle my heart before Him.
