Just Obey

Over the years my parents have given me hundreds of thousands of instructions. Some of those were carried out to the letter – others…not so much. I’m not confessing that I was a troubled kid or anything, but I did try doing things my own way every now and then. I remember thinking some of the instructions given to me were quite dumb – after becoming a Dad some of those instructions were quite clear. It’s a lot of responsibility being a Dad. The Lord revealed His plans to His people and it didn’t go well. Check this out….

“And the word of the Lord came again to Zechariah: “This is what the Lord Almighty said: ‘Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another. Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the foreigner or the poor. Do not plot evil against each other.’ “But they refused to pay attention; stubbornly they turned their backs and covered their ears. They made their hearts as hard as flint and would not listen to the law or to the words that the Lord Almighty had sent by his Spirit through the earlier prophets. So the Lord Almighty was very angry.” (Zechariah 7:8-12 NIV)

God is full of mercy and grace, but He is also a God of Justice. He gives instructions about how to live and love. He created me after all. He knows what will bring me the most joy and fulfilled life. I am most full when I love as He loves. I am also most full of joy when I extend mercy and grace like He does. I am most full of joy when I follow His Will and His Way for me. There are consequences for disobedience and my stupidity. I want my minds attention and my hearts affection to be keenly focused on God’s heart – the Source of Unspeakable Joy!!
