Judge
A Judge is a public official that is appointed or nominated to decide cases in a court of law. They are supposed to be honorable and wise people who help resolve cases before them that are directly opposed to each other. One of my favorite shows over the years has been Perry Mason. Mr. Mason served as an attorney who almost always won the case before a judge. Other shows like Perry Mason sometimes showed the human side of the judge and how the position was susceptible to corrupt behavior. I have watched judges in action and they often look bored and disinterested, but that is not necessarily the case. My ultimate judge is the Lord, the Creator and Giver of Life. Jeremiah seeks some strong council from The Judge. Check this out…
1. Lord, when I bring my case to you, you are always right. But I want to ask you about the justice you give. Why are evil people successful? Why do dishonest people have such easy lives? 2 You have put the evil people here like plants with strong roots. They grow and produce fruit. With their mouths they speak well of you, but their hearts are really far away from you. 3 But you know my heart, Lord. You see me and test my thoughts about you. Drag the evil people away like sheep to be butchered. Set them aside for the day of killing. (Jeremiah 12:1-3 NCV)Jeremiah had a great set of questions going until he “cut to the chase” and ask God to destroy evil people. The questions He asked the Lord are legitimate even today. I often wonder why bad people seem to do so well in life. I know that the Lord is more concerned about matters of the heart than anything else. If He has my heart then my actions will follow.
I’m fully aware that the Lord knows my heart – he knows my thoughts. I want to cultivate a heart that is hungry for more of Him. I want to know His heart and chase after His heart because it’s in the chase that my heart begins to take the shape of His heart. Then and only then am I not afraid of the Judge. He can see that my heart is patterned after His heart.
