Jesus Is Enough
I grew up thinking I had to do all these things to be saved. I had to go to church. I had to talk right. I had to live right. I couldn’t curse. I couldn’t smoke or chew – or go with girls who do! The list of rules that I tried to live by was long and extensive. I felt like if I failed to keep all the rules that I was going straight to hell. As I began to study the Word of God for myself, I found in multiple places that this rule-following was similar to the religious leaders of Jesus’ day keeping the law. They not only kept the law with fervor, they were very judgmental of anyone who failed to follow the rules. The Jewish leaders added a lot of extra rules to the rules already in the law.
Paul, the apostle, in writing to the church in Rome addresses this “law keeping” mentality. He reminds his readers that the Jewish people who keep trying to keep the law in order to have salvation have missed the point of the law. The law pointed to Jesus. Check this out….
4 For Christ has already accomplished the purpose for which the law was given. As a result, all who believe in him are made right with God. (Romans 10:4 NLT)
Please don’t misunderstand…. I still follow rules and laws. I don’t do this in order to be saved. I follow rules and moral code now BECAUSE I’m saved. There is a huge difference between working FOR salvation and working OUT my salvation.
I’m so thankful that Jesus came and fulfilled the law.
He rescued me from sin.
He rescued me from the rules of religion.
I’ve given Him my heart and my complete trust. He holds my future in His hands. Because of His Love for me I want to live to honor Him the rest of my days here on earth. I live for Him NOT out of obligation, but out of love and honor.
Pressing On!
